As part of Android 16, Google is going all-in on the mode, taking major inspiration from Samsung’s well-tested DeX mode. This integration marks a huge leap forward for the Android operating system. It brings a broader, more powerful desktop experience to far more devices. As of this writing Android 16’s desktop mode is in beta. On the other hand, Samsung recently released its improved DeX experience alongside its new Galaxy Z Fold7 and Z Flip7 smartphones.

The new DeX experience is even more dovetailed into the One UI 8 superstructure. This cutting-edge design is completely developed around the desktop mode of Android 16. In this redesign, making it easier for Samsung users to go back and forth between a mobile and desktop environment has become a priority. While this feature is still in beta, the Android 16 desktop mode should provide an even fuller desktop experience.

Samsung’s DeX desktop mode has become something of a phenomenon inside the Samsung bubble. Notably, it’s become the basis for Android 16’s forthcoming desktop mode. The current beta version of Android 16's desktop mode still has a few shortcomings compared to Samsung's fully customized DeX solution.

The South Korean tech giant, Samsung, has been at the forefront of offering desktop-like experiences on its mobile devices through DeX. With Android 16 embracing desktop mode, Samsung's contributions to the feature are being recognized and incorporated into the core Android operating system. An enhanced DeX experience debuted with the Galaxy Z Fold7 and Z Flip7. That’s because it teases some of the most recent improvements in Samsung’s desktop mode techno-wizardry.
