Radix, the layer-1 protocol designed specifically for decentralized finance (DeFi), has built its 1 billion XRD ecosystem engine. Today, it’s putting the launch in the hands of its token holders by making them vote on when to launch. The whole community can vote in a live governance poll. They will have to decide if they want to launch the program immediately or hold for Hyperlane integration, which will enable seamless multi-chain deposits. This decision speaks more to the go-to-market strategy, not so much the underlying protocol code.

The governance poll presents two options: "Launch ASAP" or "Wait for Hyperlane." Radix engineers are mostly done with the coding, auditing and user interface polishing for the 1 billion XRD rewards engine. Yet some engineers are making a case for a four-to-six-week delay, to let Hyperlane debut in full glory.

Radix is excited by the possibility of launching this incentive program alongside Hyperlane to help provide a more seamless DeFi experience across chains. Complete new user onboarding from design and use through easy transfers of assets from more than 100 other chains straight into Radix. This removes all the difficulties around bridging.

If we wait for Hyperlane, we might be good for a massive increase in TVL. Moreover, the number of wallets is expected to balloon as soon as the program opens. Once voters approve “Launch ASAP,” the faucet that hands out the network’s native XRD tokens will be turned on in just two weeks. This strategy focuses on winning market mindshare up-front, with the clarity that Hyperlane can be added on-street at a later date.

If the community chooses to Vote “Wait,” the faucet will remain off. That is likely to stay true until Hyperlane completes its audits, deployment and introduction into the Radix dashboard. This strategy aims to provide a frictionless onboarding experience from the outset, potentially maximizing the initial impact of the incentive program. Regardless, even if the community decides to jump-start Radix right away, the Radix community can still look forward to a deployment of Hyperlane in the future.

Radix's thesis is that releasing the faucet alongside Hyperlane lets newcomers beam assets from 100-plus chains directly into Radix without bridge gymnastics, potentially multiplying TVL and wallet count the moment the fire-hose opens. Radix distributes a daily crypto email.
