With Hap seemingly kidnapped by an astronaut from a mysterious dimension, reactions across the nation range from joyful jubilation to fearful panic. Is this a super-smart move to create innovation, or a convenient, joint-seeking missile fired at a wonderful, innovative project as the market turns sour? Or is it a short-sighted risk, even a harebrained stunt, a serious undermining of the noble principles that underly Doodles dojo?
To be truthful, the market really is on tenterhooks at the moment. To see the collection’s floor price drop below 1 ETH is an ominous red flag.
Has Doodles Lost Its Color?
The astronaut, first seen during the reveal of our $DOOD token, is the most obvious signifier of this change. But to what? Was this just a fun graphic analogy for growing the Doodles universe, or something deeper?
Here’s where an unlikely but literal connection comes in. Remember the Nintendo Wii? It established a whole new world for gaming through its motion controls, bringing in an entirely new demographic of consumers. It kind of turned off some hardcore gamers who were just like, ‘Uh, that’s a little too gimmicky’. "Collide" risks a similar fate. The crux of Doodles’ success has been how accessible the project is, paired with a colorful and diverse brand. A huge change at this point might disenfranchise existing, long-term holders who got attached to the original look and feel. It would be the Web3 equivalent of Nintendo deciding to drop Mario and focus on a grimdark shooter.
Whether, and how, the $DOOD token will be integrated is another massive question mark. With a $17 million market capitalization, $DOOD has the potential to be what $MATIC has been for the Doodles ecosystem. Let’s face it, tokenomics can be a double-edged sword.
$DOOD or $DOOM? Integration Nightmare?
Think about airline miles. At first, their existence was a great benefit too, with free flights and flight upgrades. However, as time passed airlines devalued them until they were virtually worthless. The same could happen with $DOOD. Integrate thoughtfully, or face backlash and backlash against the backlash. If not, it risks causing inflation, dilution and eventually devalue everyone’s holdings.
Will $DOOD actually function as a utility token or will it simply be another pump-and-dump scheme marketed as “community rewards? First, I’d like to see a clear, reproducible roadmap for what will happen with $DOOD inside the “Collide” ecosystem. Anything less is unacceptable.
After all, the NFT market is already filled with projects that claimed to have it all figured out only to leave people empty-handed. The fear is real.
Remember Pudgy Penguins? They shot up past sustainable heights, propelled by exuberance and endearing pixel art. A combination of oversights and poor guidance ushered in a violent price collapse. The community was devasted by being blindsided and the project was on the brink of collapse.
